Northern Pacific Refrigerator Car

Lester Breuer returns to the RCW blog with a model that reflects an interesting prototype. Here’s Lester with the details.

Once again I am pleased to have the opportunity to share a build with you here on the Resin Car Works blog. A Northern Pacific Railway double hinged door refrigerator car has been the current project. Car 91606 was built in 1954 as one of the 91500 to 91999 series, Lot 1015, in the Brainerd NP Shops. The kit is mix of a resin parts kit by Stan Rydarowicz (Resin Parts) and an InterMountain (IM) PFE R-40-23 refrigerator. The Resin Parts sides and ends replace portions of the plastic model. CB&Q GS gondolas

Nelson Moyer shared images from his workbench as he progressed with building fifteen GS-5, GS-7, and GS-8 Chicago, Burlington & Quincy gondolas. Here’s Nelson with more.

Here’s a recent building project for my Burlington-Washington Subdivision. The gondolas are Jerry Hamsmith and Ed Rethwisch kits of the CB&Q Class GS-5/7/8. I’m building three GS-5, three GS-7, and 9 GS-8 cars, as per the car class quantity ratio from the 1953 ORER. I’m adding Precision Scale, Hi Tech Detail, and Yarmouth Model Works detail parts, and substituting some Cal Scale brake components for Tichy.

Lester Breuer returns to the blog with a recent freight car kit build.

Once more I am pleased to be able to share my work with you here on the Resin Car Works blog. The build this time was a Soo Line box car, square-corner design, offered in July. Nice photos for the build are in the kit “Prototype Data and Modeling Notes.” If photos of greater clarity are desired you can find the same photos with additional data in the captions in the Soo Line Freight Equipment and Cabooses book by Kenneth J. Soroos on pages 16 and 17.

Virtual RPM

Craig Zeni returns with several models in a vitual RPM display here on the blog.

I’ve been working through a Westerfield New York Central “1916” rebuild steel box car (kit 7951). It’s a nice kit; the roof truss castings that Andrew Dahm now offers for some of his kits make the roof a whole lot easier to build. The completed underframe is seen above. A while back Frank had asked for some images of my other builds to feature blog. Here are a few for your perusal.
