The following question was posted in the comments here a few weeks ago by Rick Woods; Frank, I’m curious — what is the story on those C&IW gondolas? I live in Illinois and have seen so many photos of the C&IM 70 ton gons and am curious how you modeled them.
There isn’t a simple answer, so I thought a blog post would be best.
Essential Freight Cars Reborn (Sorta, Kinda)
Speedwitch Media has started a new series of freight car focused publications. Bill Welch has some comments on the first two issues of this exciting new series.
Okay, not exactly reborn, because while Speedwitch Media’s new Prototype Railroad Profile series of electronic books owes their heritage to Ted Culotta’s highly respected “Essential Freight Car” series that ran in Railroad Model Craftsman, these books have apparently been injected with growth hormones because there is more of everything—pages, prototype information and photos, and model photos. Resin Car Works kit update

As 2015 winds down, we would like to keep you informed as to “what’s happening” at Resin Car Works.
The Hooker acid tank car (Kit 1.05) is sold out as the decal stock is gone. Almost 50 of these kits were sold. That’s ten times the number of prototype cars that were built. The remaining acid tank car kits are available but can’t be shipped until we’re restocked with brass detail parts. With luck we’ll be shipping kits before Christmas. An update will be posted when these kits are being shipped again. We expect the limited stock of these kits to sell quickly.
Train Fest 2015 Report

Peter Hall attended Train Fest last month and has filed the following report with the Resin Car Works home office. Bob Kosic sent along additional photos and details on the Mod-U-Trak HO scale layout. Click on any image here to review a larger size.
The venue was the Milwaukee State Fair Park’s new indoor arena. The area is about a football field wide and three fields long – huge. The crowd was over 19,000 for the two-day event. I hadn’t been to a model railroad event this large in a long time!
