Resin Car Works will formally release several HO scale offset twin hopper kits that were sold at the 2023 RPM Naperville/Chicagoland. The models will follow C&IM, GN, IC, NP, and SOO prototypes built in the Twenties and Thirties.

These kits will be $40 each and only available at the RPM Naperville/Chicagoland event. Here’s what will be offered:

18.1 Illinois Central
18.2 Chicago & Illinois Midland
18.3 Great Northern – side looking goat decals
18.4 SOO
18.5 Northern Pacific
18.6 Great Northern – slant serif lettering decals

The NC&StL also had these cars but Frank doesn’t have a photo. If you can help with an image or two, drop a comment on this post and we will be in touch.

For a new, new kit we’ll have an ACF, 6000 gallon, Class 103, Type 27 tank car.

We will also reissue the former Sunshine Models Lehigh & New England short side composite gondola and Jerry Hamsmith’s Illinois Central autocar mini-kit.

These new kits will be available after RPM Naperville/Chicagoland. The RCW minions will need time to replenish stock. Once they are on the Resin Car Works website, they can be ordered. It might be a couple of months before the kits appear on the website. Availability will be announced here on the RCW blog.

  1. What is the prototype number series for the IC hoppers? I’d like to check my ORER before putting together my RPM shopping list!

  2. Probably worth pointing out that the LNE gon is a one-piece body kit and not a simple reissue of the Sunshine flat kit model. Or maybe you’re just showing how far we’ve come, in that the expectation for resin kits now is that they have one-piece bodies??

  3. Will the offset twin hoppers be available to those of us who are unable to attend Naperville due to distance and work? I live in Washington and would love to get at least one. The wording on availability of the kits in the post was unclear to me.
    Thank You!

    1. Jeff, Resin Car Works is planning to have these kits available. Any extra stock not sold during the RPM meet will be available. An blog post announcement will appear on this site when those are added to the RCW site and available for sale.

There is a chance the stock will sell out at the RPM event. In that case, we need time to replenish kit materials. As there are some holidays shortly after the RPM, it could be a couple of months before a blog announcement here. This goes for any of the kits that will be available at the RPM Naperville/Chicagoland event. – Eric H.
