Whalebelly boxcar kits available

Resin Car Works has HO scale kits available now for the Santa Fe 50-foot Whalebelly boxcars. Visit our website for kit details and the order form. There are two kit versions with different decal sets, 14.01 and 14.02. The kits are $55 each and include Tichy Train Group ladders and brake hardware, correct Tahoe Model Works #112 USRA 50 ton Andrews truck sideframes, and Microscale decals. Please note the specific kit you need on your order.

We do not take kit orders via email. Please print out and complete the PDF order form on our website and send it in with your payment and shipping details.

June kit announcements

The Resin Car Works minions have been busy producing cool reefer models for your hot summer modeling! Here are the latest two kits.

  • Kit 10.3 – Rr-43 – SFRD rebuilds with Morton running boards. 766 cars were rebuilt and installed in 1947.
  • Kit 10.4 – Rr-45 – SFRD rebuilds with Apex running boards. 500 cars were rebuilt and installed in 1948.

The Rr-43 and Rr-45 classes had rectangular “solid steel riveted panel” roofs and the earlier “improved” dreadnaught ends.

Kits 10.1 and 10.2 are also being reissued. These kits covered SFRD rebuilds of the RR-35, -36, -39, and -40 classes built between 1944 and 1946 for a total of 1,360 cars. These kits sold out quickly last summer. Visit the Resin Car Works Kits page for full kit details.

In other news, we added an postal insurance option on the order form. Resin Car Works is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen packages. Insurance can be added to your order using a USPS rate table on the order form.

We can now ship to Canada, but orders require payment using an international money order, along with $9 US for each kit to cover shipping costs.

It’s been quiet around the RCW cave lately. Frank loaded up the family and headed south to soak up some sun and avoid the last of winter in the Midwest. He’s returned and has been processing kit orders that have arrived through March. If you sent an order in March, it may be getting attention just now.

I’ve been busier than expected with lots of RPM-East tasks. As one of the event organizers, there’s always new problems to solve in the weeks leading up to the event. We seemed to have more issues than usual this year. I’ve posted personal experiences and links to the photo gallery on my DesignBuildOp blog.

We thought an update was appropriate so no one would think we ran off and joined a circus. More blog posts will be cranked out soon and there could be another surprise. You never know.
