SP 4486

Pete Hall sent the following story detailing a classic Southern Pacific locomotive.

Southern Pacific 4486 is in charge of Commute train #146 as it stands ready to depart 4th Street Tower in San Francisco. 4486 was originally SSW 817.

The photo-heavy story is available as a downloadable PDF file. This is one of the most extensive steam locomotive rebuilds I’ve ever done. It took Greg Henschen and me four months of collaboration. Greg did extensive research and provided drawings, scans from books, and photographs for me to use to determine what needed to be changed. I did all the brass work. I also thank Bill Pardie, a Hawaiian SP modeler who provided key photos and a lot of inspiration!

I’m sharing this with the Resin Car Works blog readers as I know you can appreciate this level of detail.

Many thanks to Pete Hall for sharing his amazing detail work on Southern Pacific 4486. We hope Pete’s efforts inspire you on a locomotive project that is as detailed as the resin freight car kits you build for your fleet.

  1. What great job you made of the GS8 you have certainly enhanced what was already a reasonable model.
